Riau merupakan salah satu propinsi di Indonesia. Riau terkenal dengan perkebunan kelapa sawitnya, namun dalam beberapa terakhir Propinsi Riau selalu mengalami kebakaran hutan dan lahan tiap tahunnya. Kebakaran yang terjadi tidak hanya diakibatkan oleh keadaan alam tetapi juga disengaja oleh pihak-pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Indonesia mendapatkan rekor dari Guiness yang dirilis Greenpeace sebagai negara yang mempunyai tingkat laju deforestasi hutan tercepat di dunia. Hal ini dikarenakan pengelolaan dan pemanfaatn hutan selama ini tidak memperhatikan manfaat yang diperoleh dari keberadaan hutan. Penyebab utama kerusakan hutan di Provinsi Riau adalah kebakaran hutan.
