Pengampunan pajak memberikan dampak positif bagi perekonomian Indonesia serta berpengaruh terhadap nilai tukar rupiah. Dengan adanya pengampunan pajak pertumbuhan ekonomi bisa dinaikkan. Jika pada 2016 ini pertumbuhan ekonomi diprediksi akan mencapai 5,04 persen sedangkan pada 2017 pertumbuhan ekonomi bisa menjadi lebih tinggi. Adapun bagi rupiah, pengaruh pengampunan pajak akan mendorong dana masuk ke Indonesia lebih banyak. Dengan banyaknya dana yang masuk, maka akan meningkatkan cadangan devisa serta memperkuat nilai tukar rupiah. Pengampunan pajak ini juga memiliki dampak negatif, yaitu melemahkan administrasi perpajakan dan mengurangi penerimaan Negara dari pajak. Kemudian menimbulkan kecemburuan sosial dan rasial karena adanya persepsi bahwa kelompok non-pribumi yang lebih banyak menikmati pengampunan pajak. Dan yang terakhir, menambah kesulitan ekonomi karena tidak adanya perbaikan sistem fiskal dan peningkatan penerimaan Negara dari pajak dan justru semakin memperlemah ketahanan ekonomi Indonesia.
