Charles Darwin mengemukakan teoriny

Charles Darwin mengemukakan teorinya dalam bukunya yang berjudul The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection (asal mula spesies yang terjadi melalui seleksi alam), diterbitkan pada 24 November 1859.

Dalam buku tersebut dikemukakan 3 teori pokok, yaitu:
Spesies yang hidup sekarang berasal dari spesies-spesies yang hidup di masa silam
Evolusi terjadi melalui seleksi alam
Proses evolusi dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan
